SMASH

Smash is a brand-new NBC tv series that revolves around a Broadway musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe. It premiered just yesterday, Feb 6, and my friend gave me a copy of the pilot episode.
Basically, the show is going to be about the battle of two girls who want to play the role of Marilyn Monroe in the upcoming Broadway musical and the ups and downs of writing, producing and directing it. These two girls are Karen (Katherine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hitly). The first episode showcased Julia (Debra Messing) and Tom (Christian Borle) writing songs for the musical and the auditions of Karen and Ivy for the role of Marilyn.

Pros:
-Musical numbers (kind of like Glee, the singer starts singing in her normal clothes, in whatever setting she walked into, and at the middle of the song, it becomes like a dream/Broadway sequence; but unlike Glee it’s not awkward like Karen won’t end up singing to her classmates in a hallway and have no one notice her singing)
-Megan Hitly’s acting and singing. Hands down.
-Katherine McPhee’s singing
-The show takes you through the rigorous process of producing a Broadway musical. It shows the viewers that it starts with an idea, then songs are made for it, then people are cast, etc.
-“Let Me Be Your Star” was such a nice song…I downloaded it right after watching the show
-It has a realistic story line
Cons:
-Dialogues can get boring
-I expected so much more from Debra Messing
-Cinematography (it was kind of dull)
Over-all rating: 3.5/5 (yes, I think I’m sticking to this TV show)

Was waiting for you to say something about this show. I’ve had the file for weeks and I’ve been too lazy to watch it (mostly because I was a little scared I’d be disappointed because I was kinda psyched for it)
